🧀 Cheesy Stuffed Mozzarella Onion Rings
🧾 Ingredients
2 large onions
8–10 mozzarella cheese sticks (or block mozzarella cut into strips)
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
2 tbsp milk
1½ cups breadcrumbs (panko works best)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp paprika
½ tsp garlic powder
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Onion Rings
Peel onions and slice into ½-inch thick rings.
Separate the rings and pair similar-sized rings together (one larger, one smaller).
Place mozzarella strips between the two rings to form a cheese-stuffed ring.
Press gently to seal.
👉 Freeze rings for 30 minutes (important to prevent cheese leaks).
2️⃣ Breading Station
Bowl 1: Flour mixed with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
Bowl 2: Eggs whisked with milk.
Bowl 3: Breadcrumbs.
3️⃣ Coat the Rings
Dredge each ring in flour.
Dip in egg mixture.
Coat well with breadcrumbs.
For extra crunch, repeat egg + breadcrumbs once more.
Return to freezer for 10–15 minutes.
4️⃣ Fry
Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
