🫓 Spiced Beef Flatbreads with Yogurt Sauce & Fresh Tomato Salad

Serves 4 (8 halves)


🥩 Spiced Meat Filling

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or lamb (80/20 preferred)

  • 1 small onion, finely grated

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp ground coriander

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp allspice

  • ½ tsp chili flakes (optional)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley or cilantro


Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a bowl.

  2. Mix very thoroughly until pasty and well combined (this helps it stick to the bread).

  3. Set aside while you prep the rest.


🫓 Flatbread Base

Ingredients

  • 4 pita breads (cut in half)
    or naan / Middle Eastern flatbread

  • Olive oil for brushing


🔥 Assemble & Cook

Option 1: Skillet (Best Crust)

  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium heat.

  2. Brush one side of pita lightly with olive oil.

  3. Spread a thin, even layer of meat mixture over the other side.

  4. Place meat-side down in the hot skillet.

  5. Cook 3–4 minutes until browned and sizzling.

  6. Flip and cook bread side 1–2 minutes until lightly charred.

  7. Repeat with remaining flatbreads.

Option 2: Oven

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Place flatbreads meat-side up on a baking sheet.

  3. Bake 10–12 minutes, then broil 1–2 minutes for char.


🥛 Creamy Yogurt Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small garlic clove, grated

  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Mix everything until smooth and chill until serving.


🍅 Fresh Tomato Salad (On Top)

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe tomatoes, diced

  • ¼ red onion, finely chopped

  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley or cilantro

  • Salt to taste

  • Optional: squeeze of lemon

Instructions

Toss together just before serving.


🍽️ Assemble (Like the Photo)

  1. Spread warm flatbreads with yogurt sauce.

  2. Spoon tomato salad generously on top.

  3. Finish with extra herbs and cracked black pepper.

  4. Fold or serve open-faced.
