Classic Greek Salad (Horiatiki)

A fresh, vibrant Mediterranean salad made with crisp vegetables, briny olives, and creamy feta cheese, tossed in a simple oregano-lemon dressing. No lettuce — just bold, clean flavors.


🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

Salad

  • 4 medium ripe tomatoes, cut into wedges

  • 1 large cucumber, sliced into thick half-moons

  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional but traditional)

  • ¾ cup Kalamata olives, pitted

  • 4 oz (115g) block feta cheese

Dressing

  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil

  • 1–2 tbsp red wine vinegar (or fresh lemon juice)

  • ½ tsp dried oregano

  • Salt, to taste

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste


🔪 Instructions

1. Prepare the Vegetables

  • Cut tomatoes into large wedges.

  • Slice cucumber into thick pieces (leave peel on for authenticity).

  • Thinly slice red onion and bell pepper.

Place everything in a large mixing bowl.


2. Make the Dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together:

  • Olive oil

  • Red wine vinegar (or lemon juice)

  • Oregano

  • Salt and pepper


3. Assemble

  • Pour dressing over the vegetables and gently toss.

  • Place a large slab of feta on top (traditional style) or crumble it if preferred.

  • Sprinkle a little extra oregano over the feta.

  • Drizzle with a small amount of olive oil.

  • Serve immediately or chill 15–20 minutes before serving.

  • Best enjoyed with warm pita bread.
