Soft Layered Skillet Flatbread

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) warm water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

For Layering

  • 3 tbsp softened butter
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, warm water, and oil.
  3. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

2. Shape and Layer

  1. Divide dough into 6 equal pieces.
  2. Roll each piece into a thin circle (about 8 inches / 20 cm).
  3. Brush with a mixture of softened butter and oil.
  4. Fold the dough into a loose envelope or roll it into a spiral.
  5. Let rest for 15 minutes.

3. Roll Again

  1. Gently flatten each folded piece.
  2. Roll into circles about ¼ inch (6 mm) thick.

4. Cook

  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  2. Place one flatbread in the dry skillet.
  3. Cook for 2–3 minutes until bubbles form.
  4. Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes until golden brown spots appear.
  5. Repeat with remaining dough.

5. Serve

  • Brush with melted butter while warm.
  • Stack under a clean towel to keep soft.
