Apple Yogurt Cake

A soft, creamy apple cake with a custard-like center and lightly crisp golden top.

Ingredients

For the apples

  • 3 medium apples (peeled and sliced)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

For the batter

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (250 g) plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

For topping

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. Prepare the apples

  1. Heat butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced apples and sugar.
  3. Cook for 5–7 minutes until slightly soft and lightly caramelized.
  4. Sprinkle cinnamon if using.

2. Make the batter

  1. In a bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until light.
  2. Add vanilla, yogurt, milk, and oil. Mix well.
  3. Sift in flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Stir until smooth.

3. Assemble

  1. Grease an 8-inch (20 cm) cake pan.
  2. Arrange the cooked apples evenly in the pan.
  3. Pour the batter over the apples.

4. Bake

  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 35–45 minutes
  • The top should turn golden and the center set.

5. Finish

  1. Let the cake cool slightly.
  2. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Optional Add-Ins

  • Raisins
  • Chopped walnuts
  • Lemon zest
  • A drizzle of honey or caramel sauce.
