Cheese Scones (Bakery-Style)
📝 Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 tsp dried herbs (oregano or thyme, optional)
- 1/2 cup cold butter (cubed)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar works best)
- 3/4 cup milk (cold)
- 1 egg
For topping (optional):
- Extra shredded cheese
- Milk or egg wash
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Preheat oven
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F)
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper
2. Mix dry ingredients
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and herbs
3. Add butter
- Add cold butter cubes
- Rub into the flour using fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs
4. Add cheese
- Stir in shredded cheese evenly
5. Make the dough
- In a small bowl, whisk milk and egg
- Add to the flour mixture and mix gently
- Do NOT overmix (this keeps scones soft)
6. Shape
- Turn dough onto a floured surface
- Pat into a 1-inch thick circle
- Cut into triangles or use a cutter
7. Bake
- Place on tray, brush tops with milk/egg wash
- Sprinkle extra cheese on top
- Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown

- Best served warm
- Enjoy with butter, cream cheese, or soup
