Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or chicken/turkey)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning or oregano

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste (optional, for richness)

  • 1 tbsp ketchup or Worcestershire sauce (optional)


Assembly

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

  • 1½ cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend)

  • 1 egg, beaten (egg wash)

  • Optional toppings: sesame seeds, parsley


Instructions

Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add onion and sauté until soft (3–4 minutes).

  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.

  4. Add ground meat and cook until browned; drain excess fat.

  5. Stir in salt, pepper, paprika, seasoning, tomato paste, and ketchup.

  6. Cook 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.


Assemble the Puff Roll

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment.

  2. Roll puff pastry into a rectangle on a floured surface.

  3. Spread meat mixture down the center lengthwise.

  4. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the meat.

  5. Fold sides over filling, then roll tightly into a log (seam side down).

  6. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle toppings if using.


Bake

  1. Bake 25–30 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.

  2. Rest 5–10 minutes before slicing.
