Crispy Cheesy Onion Rings
Ingredients
- 2 large onions
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)
- Cooking spray or 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
1. Prepare the onions
- Peel the onions.
- Slice into ¾-inch (2 cm) thick rounds.
- Separate the rings carefully.
- Use the larger rings, nesting a smaller ring inside each larger one to create a “double ring” with a gap in between.
2. Fill with cheese
- Mix together:
- mozzarella
- Parmesan
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- paprika
- pepper
- Italian seasoning
- Pack the cheese mixture tightly into the gap between the onion rings.
- Sprinkle a little extra cheese in the center if desired.
3. Chill
- Place the stuffed rings on a parchment-lined tray.
- Freeze for 20–30 minutes. This helps the cheese stay in place while cooking.
4. Air fry
- Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly spray the rings with cooking oil.
- Cook for 8–10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the edges are golden brown.
- For extra browning, cook another 1–2 minutes.
OR Bake
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes, then broil for 1–2 minutes to brown the cheese.
