Mini Air Fryer Blooming Onion

🧅 Ingredients (1 large blooming onion)

  • 1 large sweet onion (Vidalia or yellow)

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or panko (for extra crunch)

  • 1 egg

  • 1/3 cup milk

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • Cooking spray or olive oil spray


🍽 Optional Dipping Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tbsp ketchup

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • A dash of hot sauce (optional)

Mix and chill while cooking.


🔪 How to Cut a Blooming Onion (Important!)

  1. Cut off ½ inch from the top of the onion (leave root intact).

  2. Peel the onion.

  3. Place onion root-side down.

  4. Cut downward into 8–12 sections, stopping ½ inch from the root.

  5. Gently spread the layers open.


🥣 Breading Setup

Bowl 1: Flour + spices
Bowl 2: Egg + milk (whisked)
Bowl 3: Breadcrumbs


🌸 Coating the Onion

  1. Coat onion thoroughly with flour mixture, getting between layers.

  2. Dip into egg mixture, making sure it soaks inside.

  3. Press breadcrumbs all over, especially between petals.

  4. Spray lightly with cooking spray.


🍟 Air Frying

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.

  2. Place onion root-side down in basket.

  3. Air fry for 10 minutes.

  4. Spray again lightly.

  5. Air fry 5–8 more minutes until golden and crispy.

✅ If top browns too fast, loosely cover with foil.
