New York-style Pizza Sauce

Serves: Makes enough sauce for 2 large pizzas

Ingredients:

1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon sugar
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well.
Add dried oregano, dried basil, onion powder, sugar, salt, and pepper.
Stir to combine and bring the sauce to a simmer.
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using as a pizza sauce.
