Chinese Pepper Steak

🛒 Ingredients
🥩 For the Beef:
1 lb (450g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp sesame oil
🌶 For the Stir Fry:
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 small onion, sliced
2–3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
2 tbsp oil (vegetable or canola)
🍶 For the Sauce:
¼ cup soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional, for slight sweetness)
1 tsp sugar
½ cup beef broth (or water)
1 tsp cornstarch (to thicken)
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Marinate the Beef
In a bowl, mix:
Sliced beef
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
Sesame oil
Let sit for 15–20 minutes while you prep vegetables.
2️⃣ Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together:
Soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Hoisin
Sugar
Beef broth
Cornstarch
Set aside.
3️⃣ Cook the Beef
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Add beef in a single layer.
Sear 1–2 minutes per side until browned.
Remove and set aside (don’t overcook).
4️⃣ Stir-Fry Vegetables
Add remaining oil to the pan.
Cook:
Garlic & ginger (30 seconds)
Onion and bell peppers (2–3 minutes)
Vegetables should stay slightly crisp.
5️⃣ Combine & Finish
Return beef to the pan.
Pour in sauce and stir well.
Cook 2–3 minutes until sauce thickens and coats everything nicely.
