The Best General Tso Sauce

Ingredients:

1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup water
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon sesame oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon sriracha sauce (optional, for heat)
Sesame seeds and chopped green onions, for garnish (optional)

Directions:

In a small bowl, whisk together the low-sodium soy sauce, water, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and cornstarch until the cornstarch is fully dissolved. Set aside.
Heat the sesame oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Pour the sauce mixture into the saucepan, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
Continue to cook the sauce, stirring frequently, until it thickens to your desired consistency, about 5 minutes.
If using sriracha sauce for heat, stir it into the sauce during the last minute of cooking.
Once the sauce has thickened, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
Serve the General Tso sauce immediately over your favorite stir-fried dishes, fried chicken, or tofu.
Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
