Garlic Parmesan Jicama Fries

Serves: 3 to 4
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 30 to 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 medium jicama roots

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

  • Cooking spray or extra oil for the pan

Instructions

  1. Prep the jicama
Peel the jicama and cut into fry-shaped sticks, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. Remove excess moisture (important)
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add jicama and boil for 10 minutes.
Drain well and pat completely dry with paper towels. This helps the fries crisp.

  3. Season
In a large bowl, toss jicama with olive oil, garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  4. Bake
    Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
Lightly grease a baking sheet and spread fries in a single layer.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and slightly crisp.

  5. Add Parmesan
Remove from oven, sprinkle evenly with Parmesan, and return to oven for 5 to 10 minutes until cheese melts and lightly browns.

  6. Finish and serve
Garnish with chopped parsley if using. Serve hot.

Optional Air Fryer Method

  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F (205°C).

  • Cook seasoned jicama in a single layer for 15 to 18 minutes, shaking halfway.

  • Add Parmesan for the last 3 to 5 minutes.

Tips

  • Jicama will not get as crispy as potatoes, but boiling and drying makes a big difference.

  • For extra crunch, add 1 tablespoon almond flour or breadcrumbs before baking.

  • Serve with garlic aioli, ranch, or spicy mayo.
