  • 2 large onions, finely chopped

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • ¾ cup milk

  • 1 large egg

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

  1. Prepare the onions
    Peel and finely chop the onions. Set aside.

  2. Mix dry ingredients
    In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. Add wet ingredients
    Stir in milk and egg until a thick batter forms.

  4. Fold in onions
    Add chopped onions to the batter and mix until evenly coated.

  5. Heat the oil
    Pour oil into a deep skillet to about ½ inch deep.
    Heat over medium heat until hot (a drop of batter should sizzle).

  6. Fry the fritters

    • Drop batter by heaping tablespoons into the hot oil.

    • Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon.

    • Fry 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

  7. Drain
    Remove fritters and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
