Classic Greek Salad (Horiatiki)
A fresh, vibrant Mediterranean salad made with crisp vegetables, briny olives, and creamy feta cheese, tossed in a simple oregano-lemon dressing. No lettuce — just bold, clean flavors.
🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)
Salad
4 medium ripe tomatoes, cut into wedges
1 large cucumber, sliced into thick half-moons
½ red onion, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional but traditional)
¾ cup Kalamata olives, pitted
4 oz (115g) block feta cheese
Dressing
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
1–2 tbsp red wine vinegar (or fresh lemon juice)
½ tsp dried oregano
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
🔪 Instructions
1. Prepare the Vegetables
Cut tomatoes into large wedges.
Slice cucumber into thick pieces (leave peel on for authenticity).
Thinly slice red onion and bell pepper.
Place everything in a large mixing bowl.
2. Make the Dressing
In a small bowl, whisk together:
Olive oil
Red wine vinegar (or lemon juice)
Oregano
Salt and pepper
3. Assemble
Pour dressing over the vegetables and gently toss.
Place a large slab of feta on top (traditional style) or crumble it if preferred.
Sprinkle a little extra oregano over the feta.
Drizzle with a small amount of olive oil.
